Sexual life of a man

Reasons for the lack of erection

Male sexual dysfunctions in the modern world are much younger. Due to the high level of stress, an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, systemic diseases, bad habits with a lack of physical arousal or a flaccid erection, sexually mature men of all ages are increasingly facing today. When the first symptoms of the pathology appear, you should immediately contact a specialist to determine the causes of what is happening, to prevent serious negative consequences.

Lack of erection

Erectile dysfunction is called not only the lack of erectile function as such, but also a complex of problems related to male potency (insufficient intensity of physical arousal, premature ejaculation, inability to keep the penis in an erect state throughout the entire sexual intercourse (sudden disappearance of an erection)). Signs of a decrease in male potency are, as a rule, the appearance and gradual development of the following symptoms:

  • the disappearance of daily morning erections;
  • defective penis filling;
  • increased time interval between stimulation and erection;
  • decrease in the amount of ejaculated sperm;
  • one-time or regular inability to achieve an erection sufficient to have sexual intercourse and to keep it throughout;
  • premature ejaculation.

Difficulties with potency in the modern world are experienced by men of different ages. Earlier, erectile dysfunction was considered an older disease associated with a decrease in the production of the sex hormone testosterone in the male body. Today, according to statistics, men over the age of 20 suffer from violations of the mechanism of occurrence of an erection of a psychogenic and organic nature. In percentage terms, the share of development of sexual dysfunctions in different age groups is as follows:

  • 20-30 years: about 20%;
  • from 30 to 40: 27-30%;
  • 40-50 years old: 48%;
  • 50 years and older: 57-60%.

Why there is no erection

The reasons for the lack of erection, doctors are divided into two large groups. Malfunctions in systems that affect physical male arousal (endocrine, vascular, nervous, etc.) are called organic causes. The same group of factors includes the effect on the body of toxic substances (including alcohol, nicotine, narcotic substances), the active components of drugs of some pharmacological groups.

The suppression of the erectile mechanism that occurs under the influence of psychological factors (high levels of stress, disorders of the nervous system, depression, etc.) is called psychogenic. Often, psychological impotence is based on systemic organic disorders (about 80% of all cases), this type of sexual dysfunction occurs under the influence of a complex of organic and psychogenic factors.

Vascular pathology. This group includes any diseases that lead to a decrease in blood pressure in the arterial bed, insufficient supply of the cavernous bodies of the penis (diseases of the cardiovascular system (coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, heart failure), impaired blood circulation due to hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, and other vascular disorders).

Diseases of the genitourinary system. Pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted diseases.

Neurological disorders. A decrease in male potency can occur against the background of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diseases, after a stroke, with injuries of the spinal cord, injuries of the spine, pelvis or perineum, multiple sclerosis, etc.

Endocrine disruptions. Diseases associated with impaired adrenal function, pituitary gland, thyroid gland dysfunction, diabetes mellitus, pathologies leading to a change in the level of secretion of sex hormones.

In the morning

Spontaneous morning erections are an essential marker of male sexual health. The causes of their occurrence are not fully understood (among provoking factors, doctors note even morning overflow of the bladder). Normally, this phenomenon is observed from the moment of the onset of puberty of a man until the end of his ability to reproduce. The absence of a morning erection may occur due to the following factors:

  • severe overwork, physical or emotional;
  • sexually transmitted infection;
  • prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia;
  • unhealthy Lifestyle;
  • systemic disease of the vascular or endocrine system.

The disappearance of involuntary nocturnal or morning erections often occurs against the background of organic erectile dysfunction. If the situation takes on a regular nature, that is, it lasts from one to two months or more, additional side effects of a sexual disorder appear (for example, pain during or after intercourse, discharge from the urethra), you should immediately contact a urologist.

Psychological reasons

The most common psychogenic causes of lack of an erection are a weakening interest in a regular sexual partner, emotional overstrain, or psychological trauma. Other factors affecting the intensity of male libido are:

  • complication of relations with a beloved woman, frequent quarrels;
  • prolonged abstinence or satiety due to excessive sexual activity;
  • lack of confidence in their sexual abilities;
  • increased anxiety, depression, nervous disorders;
  • sexual incompatibility with a woman.

What to do if there is no erection

The main thing that a man who has experienced a decrease in sexual potency should remember is that only a specialist can accurately understand the reasons for the lack of an erection, based on the results of a comprehensive examination of the male body. In most cases, men are embarrassed to seek help, begin to self-medicate, uncontrolled intake of potent drugs that not only do not affect the symptoms of the problem, but also have negative side effects.

However, in many clinical situations, taking medications is not required. A sufficient result has a lifestyle change to a healthy and active. Hypodynamia (lack of physical mobility) leads to congestion in the bloodstream of the pelvic organs, and with the introduction of regular sports and performing special exercises, the situation with erectile function changes for the better. The observance of the rules of a healthy diet, the rejection of bad habits, resistance to stress and the normalization of work and rest are no less important.

To cope with problems with erection helps a special massage (with prostatitis and hyperplasia of the prostate tissue) and the use of alternative methods. The intake of plant aphrodisiacs (for example, tinctures from ginger root), the consumption of foods rich in zinc, vitamins of groups A, B, C, and E (seafood, red meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts and honey).
